The monkey Temple

A lovely morning at the monkey temple in Kathmandu, Nepal. This is also called Swayambhu and it is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites for Tibetan Buddhists after Boudha.

You can enter two ways. If you choose to climb the 365 steps, you will face the massive vajra (thunder-bolt scepter) at the top. And as you look up you will look into the eyes of Buddha at the top of the stupa (a huge white dome at the base). This path is best in the morning before it gets too hot. Taking the other route, you catch a taxi and only have to take a few steps to the top.

Wander around the stupa and spin the prayer wheels as you connect to all the different Gods and Goddesses. Say hello to the monkeys and pray for auspiciousness and for the enlightening activity of what you are doing to benefit yourself and all others. Breathe in the peaceful atmosphere and the compassion from this ancient and holy place.

As you wander around admire the view over Kathmandu Valley and connect to your vision. Let all the shrines and temples mesmerise you. If you ever want to escape the hustle and bustle of Thamel, come here. It has an atmosphere like no other place.

Namaste!
